i will try updating our faad2 copy to last version (2005-jan-30)
before the GPL-incompatible change. Then, if that still doesn't fix
the 5.1 problem we will have to fix it by ourselves. in other words:
we will have no other option but to fork faad2 and start collaborating
with other projects using in (like MPlayer, Dream, ...) in order to
fix bugs. btw: PLEASE don't import patches from GPL-incompatible
versions!!!

it should be possible to try some "chinese wall" approach for fixing
bugs at the forked faad2 version. one group looks at the FAAD2 cvs
code changes, documents what problems are in terms of AAC
specification and the other group implement the fixes. we may set a
public mailing list so the communication process can be fully open.
