Here is the error that mplayer gives:

Playing rtsp://hollywood.unizh.ch/PLAY/Channels/0008/de/QuickTime/Archive/03_11_04-08_24_27/Video200k/index.mov
Not a Realmedia rtsp url. Trying standard rtsp protocol.
Connected to server: hollywood.unizh.ch
This stream is non-cacheable
Stream not seekable!
Failed to get a SDP description from URL "rtsp://hollywood.unizh.ch/PLAY/Channels/0008/de/QuickTime/Archive/03_11_04-08_24_27/Video200k/index.mov": cannot handle DESCRIBE response: RTSP/1.0 404 Not Found

So it seems that it's trying to use SDP, even though VoD does not use SDP.

No, the problem is simply that the RTSP server responded with an error: "404 Not Found".

In other words, there was no such movie on the server. In other words, your "rtsp://" URL was incorrect.

Can we still use mplayer to stream the content at

rtsp://hollywood.unizh.ch/PLAY/Channels/0008/de/QuickTime/Archive/03_11_04-08_24_27/Video200k/index.mov

No, you can't use *anything* to stream that content, because it doesn't exist :-)

(Note that QuickTime Player gives me the same error - 404 Not Found - when I try to play that URL.)

If you give MPlayer a correct "rtsp://" URL - for a stream that actually exists - it should work.
