Hi Jim,

AFAIK, most nVidia cards can only support acceleration on the primary
screen, so if your TV was the primary screen then you wouldn't be able
to get acceleration on the secondary screen (your monitor.)  The only
way around this is to fiddle with your X11 config to make your monitor
the primary screen.

Quick status update. I unplugged the TV and restarted X. This has the
results of causing it to have just a single screen. It still seems to be
using adaptor #1, but this time I can report that the XvMC code worked!
It seemed to save around 60% of the CPU used.

I've attached revised xvinfo, xdpyinfo and mplayer output.
