I have lately seen a lot of such reports, is there a FAQ entry for it?
If not, any volunteers for writing one??
Also, at least in the case of my broken i810 hardware, X cannot switch
resolutions on the fly.
You have to start X with the appropriate resolution.
The xorg.X.log should be able to provide some hints as to what went wrong.
