I find ProjectX invaluable these days for processing DVB-T streams,
which contain errors frequently.  Everything else, either fails point
blank, or slips the audio everywhere.  One pass through ProjectX and
it's sorted for mplex -> dvdauthor, or transcoding to AVI.

The visual cuts feature is perfect for removing adverts too :)
